Laid-Back’s Too Nice to Race K5 Blazer
Optima Ultimate Street Car events attract some of the nicest builds in the country. Which means it takes something special to stand out from the rest. And that’s just what Hondo Miller and his team at Laid-Back Garage achieved. Within moments of stumbling across this K5 Blazer I knew I had to feature on an episode of In The Paddock!
It’s hard to overstate how beautiful this Blazer is. And with only 10 miles on the odometer the Laid-Back crew clearly had confidence in the build. In fact, I don’t think they had any mechanical issues all weekend!
Some Video Highlights
Hondo Miller walks us though many of the features that make this born again Blazer stand out. There are a number of cool body mods. Such as, years of sitting with repeated snow build up put a concave depression in the roof. This became the perfect excuse to add a rag top. Changing the embossed “Chevrolet” lettering on the tailgate to “Laid Back” is another neat touch.
More subtle body mods include using the same rectangular pattern in the grill, interior and even the side exit exhaust. Be sure to watch Hondo explain how they eliminated the wing windows and added full window frames. Probably one of the coolest mods on the truck.
Of course, we cover the drivetrain and suspension setup in the truck. As well as taking you guys onboard for a flying lap on the autocross!
